8 Week Program

Dates:

Based in Lionshead. Drop-off by 8:30am. Pick up at 3:00pm

Classes formed by High Rockies based on level and age.

All groups coached by Vail Ski Instructors.

Groups remain the same for all 8 weeks (unless changes need to be made based on 8 Week Program participation and/or level).

Bus Transportation is NOT provided.


6 Week Program

Ski Levels


Beginner/Novice Zone


Level 1: Welcome to skiing/ building the foundation 

Level 2: Introduction to turning

  • Control speed while gliding with varying wedge sizes
  • Develop turn shape and size

Level 3: Introduction to green terrain/chairlift

  • Learn to control speed by turning and start linking turns
  • Begin to manage speed and turn shape through skidding

Intermediate Zone


Level 4: Mastering Green Terrain

  • Consistently manage speed and turn shape through skidding
  • Parallel through the traverse of a turn
  • Beginning hockey stops in both directions

Level 5: Exploring Blue Terrain/Freestyle

  • Consistent hockey stops in both directions
  • Basic parallel turns on blue terrain
  • Carry poles and begin to use them correctly
  • Intro to easy bumps

Level 6: Mastering Blue terrain, with an Introduction to Black terrain

  • Link parallel turns on blue terrain
  • Develop edging skills for carving
  • Developing upper and lower body independence
  • Efficient on easy bumps; exploring powder and ungroomed snow conditions

Advanced Zone


Level 7: Linking Parallel Turns on All Blue and Some Black Terrain w/ Speed Control

  • Linking parallel carved turns on groomed green and blue terrain
  • Able to perform short radius turns using upper- and lower-body independence in a variety of conditions
  • Skiing intermediate bumps efficiently; intro to advanced bumps
  • Efficient in powder and ungroomed snow conditions

Level 8: Mastering the Entire Mountain

  • Perform parallel turns with speed control in the gravity line on variable black terrain
  • Efficient carved turns on groomed blue and easier black terrain
  • Ski the gravity line with speed control in double-diamond black bumps

Level 9: Skiing Any Turn, Anywhere, Anytime, in Any Snow Condition

  • Carve medium- and long-radius turns on any trail with consistent pitch
  • Explore different tactics for skiing bumps
  • Confident on any trail in any condition
